I've been a journalist for 27 years and many of them were spent writing on food. For the past 5 years, I've been running one of the most popular food newsletters in Romania (www.mealplanning.ro, over 16,000 subscribers) and this spring I became senior editor of a new food vertical at HotNews.ro, one of the most respected Romanian media outlets (with award-winning investigations and over 50 million readers per month). In my new capacity, I am coordinating a team of writers and recipe developers to provide readers with a mix of recipes and food culture articles that explain our relationship to food, food production, and consumption. The vertical launches October 1st, but until then I publish one article a week on the main homepage.
Also, for the past year, I've been involved, as a co-founder and writer, in Plancha.food, an English-language publication for hospitality owners and professionals in Austria, Hungary and Romania. I write twice a month about issues that are stringent to the industry, from dish pricing to weather hazard prevention.
Previously, I wrote about food (among other topics) for Decât o Revistă (DoR), an independent narrative journalism quarterly that was published between 2009 and 2022, as a feature writer and Senior Editor, I covered the European baking industry for World Bakers, a trade magazine, and I had a food podcast, Învinge tava, with practical advice for amateur cooks.
In 2022 I graduated a MA in Anthropology at the National School of Administrative and Political Studies (SNSPA) Bucharest. I am currently running an academic research on how cognitive anthropology explain labelling food as good/bad / healthy/unhealthy and how that affects long-term health.
