Giulia Scarpaleggia

I am a Tuscan food writer, cookbook author, and cooking teacher, based in the countryside between Siena and Florence, where I run a cooking studio with my husband, photographer Tommaso Galli.

My work focuses on Italian home cooking, with a particular attention to seasonality, regional traditions, and the everyday techniques that shape how we cook and eat. I am especially interested in the role of vegetables in Italian cuisine, and in how simple ingredients, when treated with care, can become deeply satisfying.

I am the author of seven cookbooks, including Cucina Povera (Artisan, 2023) and Vegetables the Italian Way (Artisan, 2026). My writing has appeared in publications such as Food52, The Simple Things, Great Italian Chefs, What Women Cook, BBC Good Food, Corriere della Sera, and Bake from Scratch magazine.

Alongside my books, I share essays and recipes through my newsletter, Letters from Tuscany, and teach cooking classes shaped by years of conversations with international students.

Across all my work, I am interested in making Italian cooking feel both grounded and accessible, sharing the joy of conviviality.
