Rawah Badrawi

I am a London-based author and travel writer, often pursuing projects that reflect my interest in Egyptian culture and heritage. I graduated from Georgetown University in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in Economics and History. My career in finance from 1996 to 2010 spanned New York, Bogotá, London and Cairo. I wrote my first the book Siwa in 2012 - a travelogue about the mystical oasis in the Egyptian Sahara, published by Haven Books in Hong Kong. All royalties are donated to fund Tawasol; an initiative that empowers women in distressed communities in Cairo. From 2012 to 2016 I joined venture capital firm Flat6 Labs as a mentor, working mostly with female-led start-ups in Egypt and the Levant. I also work closely with renowned Egyptian jewellery brand Azza Fahmy on intiatives that promote cultural storytelling in the UK market. My upcoming book ‘EGYPT: Recipes & Stories from an Ancient Land’ with co-author Suzanne Zeidy will be released in September (published by Nourish Books in the UK). It will be the first book on regional Egypt food and travel.

I live with my husband, three children and German Shepherd between London and Egypt.
