I was born in Baghdad, Iraq. I am a designer, painter and ceramicist and since 2011 also a food writer. I have worked in the design field for many years, both in Paris and in London.
Food has always played an important part in my life. The love of it has pushed me to explore and write about the flavours and recipes of my Baghdadi heritage. The result was a cookbook called Flavours of Babylon. When my book was published in 2011, I joined the Guild to be part of the forum of food writers and cooks. Thereafter, I became involved in food demonstrations for different charities and a documentary on an Iraqi Passover for the BBC with Giles Coren.
Sadly during Covid, I stopped my membership for various reasons. But today I am thrilled to be joining the Guild of Food Writers again.
Our roots are where we spring from but not necessarily our whole identity. I am in the process of writing my second cookbook which will be published in 2025.
