Sam Bilton

Sam Bilton is a freelance food writer, presenter and cook specialising in food history. Sam has written three food history books to date: First Catch Your Gingerbread (2020); Fool's Gold: A History of British Saffron (2021) and The Philosophy of Chocolate (2023). Sam also writes articles for organisations such as Eaten Magazine, English Heritage, Wicked Leeks and National Geographic Traveller. Her food history podcast Comfortably Hungry launched in 2022 and she co-hosts the A is for Apple Podcast.

Sam is also the editor of Petits Propos Culinaires (PPC) an international journal on food, food history, cookery and cookery books published three times per year by Equinox.

Sam was an Awards Coordinator for the Guild of Food Writers committee and has served as Secretary and Co Vice Chair on the committee between 2017 and 2021 .
