My name is Angie! I run an award-winning cookery school in Oxfordshire and online since the covid pandemic. 9 years previously I was Head of Food/Teacher for near on 20 years. I left as I wanted to get young children cooking. My son at the time could cook (7 years) but many of my students at school had limited skills. I started Mrs Bun and have never looked back. I love passing on my knowledge to others, how you don't need to be afraid of the kitchen, the children can get in there and do so much. I find in my classes the adults often get so much out of the classes, learning what can be baked in the hour, fussy eaters start to try new foods, and they have that life skill with them forever then. My life is food! From moving around the UK when small, to living abroad I am excited about culture and food. Studying Geography and Catering at Oxford Brookes gave me a big passion for food/farming & the environment. My dissertation was 'How Green is the Pub Lunch' (Oxford city centre) I try to buy local where I can for Mrs Bun, compost and look at sustainability for my business. I have written 3 books, the latest last year, with the others sold out. My customers said I should write them, to show others what can be created by the children. Teaching them young, I say they 'learn through play' is great. Yes, I teach them aged 2plus! People are often shocked by this, many of my young chefs are now in Secondary school and I get feedback from them even now, telling me how capable they are in the food lessons and well ahead of the others in the class! I have also been on stage at Carfest, local food festivals and have been asked to run the Kids kitchen at Oxford Food Festival later this year. During covid I got thousands of people baking live every Friday on Facebook . For each week of lockdown, we would make and bake something together at 4pm, it was great having people join me from my local neighbourhood, to wider United Kingdom and even as far as America. Australia, Canada, Singapore, and all over Europe. It was lovely to see everyone connecting over food, and making it themselves, to share with their family, a sense of achievement and pride, kids gaining confidence when everything around us seemed quite bleak.
