New Member: Stephen Anderson

Stephen is a chef and restaurateur based in Valencia, Spain. His restaurant Ma Khin Café named after his great-grandmother serves decolonial Asian food. From a steaming pot of khao swe noodles laced with fiery balachaung, to the simple comforting warmth of a bowl of dahl, this is food that takes gastronomy seriously. It respects regional culinary traditions, celebrates cultural encounters and looks forward to a world where people are welcomed as much as their food.

Stephen’s sister Bridget Anderson is an academic, specializing in the study of migration and citizenship and in 2018 Bridget and Stephen published Burma, Food, family and Conflict, a book that combines original historical research, family stories, and distinctive regional recipes to give a flavour of life and struggle from colonial Burma to contemporary Myanmar.
