Inspired by having lived in Israel as a young woman and working with the food of the country's lush north, Ruth embarked on a career in food with Truly Scrumptious Catering. A graduate of Leith’s School of Food and Wine, she combined her knowledge of creating fresh, exciting ingredients with understanding the unique flavours of the Middle East, to produce delicious dishes for corporate events and private celebration.
Israel Good Food Guide followed, an attractive website showcasing the diversity and eclectic tastes and influences of Israeli food, through restaurant reviews and innovative recipes from chefs and home cooks of both Israel’s rural north and its vibrant cities. Ruth’s meanderings and mouth-watering photographs were never far from trending on Twitter or Instagram feeds.
Ruth qualified as a food writer with distinction from the College of Media and Publishing, which gave her immense enjoyment of food writing a boost, enabling her to bring The Galilean Kitchen to life, oozing flavour and spice onto every page. From an annual jaunt back to the Galilee, Ruth was introduced to a delightful Muslim woman called Nawal and her traditional Arabic home cooking, using local and seasonal ingredients. From this meeting, Ruth was presented with the opportunity to experience, taste and cook authentic food of the Arabic cultures of rural Galilee, which set her off on the journey of writing her debut cookbook.
The Galilean Kitchen was a winner in the Gourmand Cookbook Awards in the category of Culinary Tourism and will also now be honoured in the awards ceremony in July in the Peace category.
