Charlotte Goy of Visit Lincolnshire hands a hamper of
Lincolnshire produce to WriteIt! 2010 Winner Ryan Gruss
At a sparkling party on 17 June 2010 at the Design Museum to celebrate the Guild of Food Writers Annual Awards, Ryan Gruss, a 14 year old schoolboy from Bournemouth was presented with a wonderful prize courtesy of Visit Lincolnshire (www.visitlincolnshire.com).
This is the third year that the Guild has run WriteIt! which is open to entrants aged up to 18 years old, who are required to write a 750-word descriptive piece based on any food related subject.
A previous finalist of CookIt!, the Guild's childrens cookery competition, Ryan wrote a wonderfully evocative piece on his trip to a Turkish market - see below for the full text.
Ryan’s prize includes a short break to Lincolnshire for two adults and two children where he will be introduced to its artisan producers and learn how some of their award-winning food and drink is made.
Jane Suthering, President of the Guild, would like to thank judges Charles Campion and Thomasina Miers for supporting this competition and says of Ryan, 'He is a gifted young man who is obviously so keen to write. He has already won the opportunity to have a monthly column in the Tesco magazine and is now hoping to publish a cookery book with his elder brother, Justin (last year’s winner of WriteIt!). I wish them both great success.'
