Honey is hip; bees are hot. Perhaps in response to the worrying decline in bee populations, recent years have seen a boom in British beekeeping. Not confined to the sleepy shires, hives are now popping up in suburban gardens and urban roof terraces To celebrate National Honey Week (3 - 9 May) we are holding our own very special bee-based event in the heavenly surroundings of Petersham Nurseries. Petersham Nurseries' renowned head chef, Skye Gyngell, will talk on food and honey pairings, demonstrating with two tasting dishes (which we get to eat, of course) how this most magical of nature's bounty can transform the character, and lend subtle flavour notes to her favourite ingredients. We will also be tasting a range of top notch honeys and one of the Guild's own queen bees, Hattie Ellis (author of Sweetness & Light: The Mysterious History of The Honey Bee), will be talking on 'The Buzz About Bees and Honey - past, present and future'.
This event is being generously sponsored by Total Greek yoghurt.
Directions: There are fast trains to Richmond from Waterloo or Reading. The District Line also goes to Richmond. Petersham Nurseries are located a brisk 30 minute walk along the river or short hop by bus or taxi – there is a black cab rank in front of the station.
