Following the success of last November’s workshop in Yorkshire, Axel Steenberg is hosting a workshop on Monday 12 March in central London to introduce southern members to the wonders of pepper. Steenbergs was set up in North Yorkshire in 2003 to supply the discerning cook with organic teas, herbs, spices and cooking ingredients, and takes pride in its ethical sourcing and environmental responsibility.

Axel will share his expertise with members, talking mainly about pepper (of which Steenbergs stocks over 20 varieties), and exploring some spices that are currently on-trend, such as turmeric and cinnamon. He will also focus on vanilla, which has been in the news recently. No one knows more about the fast-changing world of herbs and spices than Axel, so this is a real opportunity to extend your food knowledge and get inspired with new possibilities.

The glamorous venue for this workshop will be the recently refurbished private dining room at Santini’s, which as many Guild members will know is a long-established family-run Italian restaurant in the heart of Belgravia, just two minutes away from Victoria, Sloane Square and Knightsbridge stations. The restaurant is famed for its authentic Italian cuisine, freshly cooked to order, and the meal will be presented by Guild member Laura Santtini, who is among the world’s leading experts in flavour as well as a respected food writer. After lunch, she will talk about her spice-based ‘Life is Delicious’ product range.

The workshop will start at 11am with coffee and from 11.30am Axel will introduce us to a range of peppers with an opportunity to smell, taste and ask questions. Lunch will be at 12.30pm and will incorporate an array of the peppers in Steenberg’s range. After lunch Laura will talk about some of her current spice products and the event should finish at about 2pm,

The workshop and lunch costs £20 for members, £30 for guests. It is expected this event will sell out fast, so please make your reservation immediately if you would like to come.
