New charity Good Food Matters
23 August 2018
Guild member Polly Tyrer is supporting a fledgling charity called Good Food Matters, a community teaching site for cooking and growing.
Good Food Matters is looking for partners to make their charity sustainable for the long term. It is a small charity that is a centre of cooking, healthy eating and food growing excellence at the heart of the communities of New Addington and Fieldway, in south London.
The site is a surprising haven of tranquillity at the heart of these busy London suburbs. It consists of 1.5 acres of vegetable growing, high raised beds for the disabled, an established pond, bee hives, newly arrived chickens and well-equipped teaching kitchen.
The small yet committed team of staff and volunteers offer a variety of food growing, nutrition and cookery courses to educate and train local people in an understanding of what a balanced diet is as well as promoting the value of affordable, local healthy food to the community.
Since Good Food Matters was established in 2013, it has supported over 700 people to develop food growing and cooking skills. If you might be interested in using the wonderful site to run healthy cookery, nutrition or gardening classes the team will be very interested to hear from you.
